Time to start decorating for Halloween

When I reopen for the weekend, it will be September, so it's time to start bringing in Halloween! My favorite time of the year.

My favorite find this weekend

Hand painted bunny on old wooden door panel. I was going to save this for spring, but I just couldn't wait to put it in my store. It's clashing a bit with the fall colors, but oh well! Wire on back for hanging.

Unique garlic basket

I have never seen one of these before. From Italy, a garlic basket or shipping crate. Cool look!

Trunk

Great old trunk or tool box would make a perfect coffee table with built in storage. Someone moved the handles from the sides to one in the front and one in the back. Maybe it was easier to carry that way. It gives it an interesting look though.

Grinding wheel with seat and water trough

I have had just the wheels before, but this is the first one I have had with the stand intact and a seat, and the little water trough below the wheel. My husband saw this in the back of a pickup truck and when the guy came out, he asked if he was interested in selling it. He was, and here it is! Great in the garden.

Primitive measure

Here is an interesting little piece. I just liked the old wood on this and thought it was some kind of little stand. The woman I bought it from said it was used to measure a bunch of asparagus!

I don't know if that is what she used it for, or if that was what it was intended for. It's a conversation piece in any case. SOLD! and it really was an asparagus measure because the person who bought it had one before and she knew right away what it was~

Fall items are sneaking their way in!

I acquired this neat little cupboard, but someone had spray painted their initials onto it. I don't usually paint things, preferring to let customers finish things to their liking. However, this needed to be painted so I chose this "pumpkiny" color since I knew I was going to use this to display my fall things. I haven't put a price on it yet, as I like the way it looks right now in the store. But, I have been known to sell just about anything that isn't nailed down. Wait, I did even take something off the wall once that was nailed down because a customer just had to have it!

From Bee Charmer's Cottage come these wonderfully scented wax items. Little spice rubbed witches hats, that can sit on a shelf with Halloween displays or use a few as a bowl filler. There are also little pumpkins that smell so good, and are also spice rubbed. They have little twig stems and a bit of spice garnish the tops. On the bottom shelf, are goat milk soap bars. No, not from my goats, but made by Janet of Bee Charmer's Cottage. The bars of soap are in the shape of a pumpkin. I can attest to the quality of these hand made soaps. They lather up into nice foamy suds, and last and last. Best of all, the design keeps its shape forever but just gets smaller.

Handcrafted chenille pumpkins

Very cute pumpkins made from an old chenille bedspread. They have felt leaves and a twig stem. I remember when I bought these, I had them in the back of my car and my sister just happened to be visiting from Oregon. She loved them so much, I gave her one right away, and then she bought one to give to her friend. They are adorable!

Trunk with lid, horse door stop and twig wreath

I am so glad I added this non working fireplace to my addition because everything looks nice in front of it! People have asked to buy the fireplace, but I tell them it's nailed to the wall! I guess this is one thing I will NEVER sell! In front of it, a small trunk with lift off lid, and nice handles on sides. A cast iron reproduction horse door stop, and a hand crafted twig wreath.

Deb's handcrafted pillows

I have customers who practically beg for Deb's fine work! She is a pretty busy lady these days, but here are three beautiful pillows. She tea stained these to give them a nice aged look. Embroidered details, in pretty fall colors.

Pretty chair with fall leaves

Third time is a charm (I hope!) I have had this beautiful chair in the store for two autumn seasons, and now this will be the third. I just love it, and can't understand why it is still here. Rush seat in excellent condition and handpainted fall leaves on the chair back. Pretty yellow/gold paint, and only $22!! Let's see if it goes this year!

Dragonfly

Dragonflies are said to bring good fortune, so I am adding this photo taken by my daughter, Kate. They are everywhere right now along with my favorite, the firefly.

You have to love scales!

I had to bid against my friends to get this scale! I try not to do that, but they were in the front row and maybe they didn't know it was me bidding against them! (sorry Larry and Sue!) I just love scales and this red postal scale is a beauty.

Those of you who follow my blog, know I am early updating this week. This cloudy day would not have been a very good pool day, so I got lots of work done today! The sun will come out tomorrow.

Headboard wall art!

A lot of my customers come in looking for interesting things to hang quilts from. So this caught my eye, and I thought it would work well as a quilt display. Twin size headboard that came with a wire hanger ready to hang on the wall. SOLD!

Medicine Cabinet

Gorgeous older medicine cabinet. Has holes drilled in back to hang directly on wall. Bluish-red touches of paint on interior shelves, and there is a small divided compartment for storing smaller items. It's smells really nice too. I was told by the consigner that this is the cabinet where he kept his Polo supply!

Automotive Gauge

I love anything like this that has architectural art appeal! It's some kind of gauge for testing mufflers. I may be one of only a few women that likes stuff like this. Even my husband the mechanic didn't notice this at the auction! This would look cool hanging anywhere. Approx. 10 inches in diameter. It is no longer functional, just decorative.

I don't think this cat is old, but there is just something about it that I was drawn to.

Children's books

I bought several old children's books last week, but these were two of my favorites. Krag and Johnny Bear by Ernest Thompson Seton 1920, and The Brown Owl by Amy Prentice 1906. The illustrations inside the front covers are just beautiful!

1934 Marble game

Made in the year my mom was born-1934. Made in the city of Bridgeport, CT which was the next town over from where I grew up. It was fate that led me to buy it! I love the graphics even though it's a bit rusty. (I guess we would be too if we were 75 years old!) Can still be played, spring still shoots marble up into game area. Hang on the wall if you just want a neat game display. Measures 14 by 24 inches

One drawer table with 2 chairs

For all you shabby chic fans out there, a little pine one drawer table and 2 chairs. Nice chippy finish, and someone added rose type decals. Table measures 25-1/2 inches by 41 inches across and 29-1/2 inches tall.

Industrial type desk lamp

I love the base of this lamp. It's cast iron with a deco look to it. The best part of the lamp is that it still works! The lightbulb even looks like it has been in there for years. SOLD!

Yet another garden chair!

Although it doesn't show up as well in the photo, this is almost a lime green. Because I am always thinking of Halloween displays, I think it would be perfect on a porch with fall flowers and a pumpkin! It's coming faster than we think!

Shadowbox

Older shadow box or divided display box. Great green paint on sides with wooden dividers. Cool vintage look. Inside is lined with some kind of fabric which could make for a very cool display. Has new sawtooth hanger on back for hanging, but it looks great flat on a table too. It all depends on what it will be used for!

Butter churn with metal paddle

I am always happy when I can get one of these at an auction. This one came from Rumney, NH. They look fantastic displayed on a kitchen shelf or an old Hoosier. Perfect country decor. One customer was going to actually use this to make butter. Someone with more ambition than me!

For those of you who like to make your own ladyfingers. Or, you can just hang this on a wall with other molds. It would also be a cool dog biscuit mold for spoiled little pups!

Henry McKenna stoneware bourban jug. One half gallon size. Has pouring spout in top. Beautiful blue flower design.

Pewter cruet carousel

Lovely pewter cruet carousel. Glass bottles have an etched design in them. Pewter caps on some of the bottles, and glass stoppers in others. one bottle has a perforated top, so it was used for salt, or pepper most likely. Beautiful glass things make me nervous! I am very klutzy, and usually end up breaking things when handling them. Yikes! SOLD!

Old wooden and needlepoint doorstop

Very interesting look to this piece. Wood triangle is the base for the needlepoint design on front. Note the joined edges on sides.
